Characteristics Of Pine
The Nature Of Pine itself Pine is a raw product of nature. Its grain patterns knots, and colour variations give each piece a unique charm. No two pieces of pine are ever identical in patterns, knots or colour, so you should not expect pine furniture to show the bland, flawless uniformity of man-made materials. COLOUR As pine ages its colour naturally gets deeper. It mellows due to the action of light and air new items may initially appear lighter than older pieces. This difference will diminish as the new piece ages. Be careful not to leave a vase or ornament in one place for too long. The area of wood covered will mellow less than the rest, and you could be left with a lighter shadow on the surface. LACQUERED SURFACE CARE The lacquer finish we apply to your furniture requires very little care. We recommend that you apply a good quality polish to all exposed surfaces about four times a year. It is recommended that you use a water-emulsified furniture polish. A water-emulsified polish cleans oily based dirt as well as water soluble dirt like food. It will have a milky white appearance. Some examples of this type of polish are Guardsman, Pledge and OZ. Make sure you always buff off any excess polish with a dry rag every time you apply it. Otherwise, you are sure to get a wax build-up. If you do get a build-up after time, you can use Oil Soap or mineral spirits to clean off the build-up, and then re-polish to get the shine back. This sometimes takes a few applications. Always avoid exposing pine furniture to extremes of temperature or humidity. Even with a hard wearing lacquer pine is naturally softwood & it can still be damaged by knocks and scrapes. If dented, particularly if the seal of the lacquer is broken, rub some solid wax into the dent to exclude atmospheric moisture. WAXED FURNITURE Properly waxed furniture should not need re-waxing more than once or twice a year unless subjected to heavy use. To maintain a fine finish, dust regularly and do not use sprays it's not a good idea to use regular furniture polish on a surface that is paste waxed. The solvent in the furniture polish will dissolve the wax and leave you with a mess! If surface becomes dull and dry use a quality wax polish. Beeswax polish is a traditional rich and feeding wax. This consists of a mixture of waxes dispersed in pure turpentine, which can be applied with a brush, cloth or pad of extra fine steel wool (0000) and should be left between 12-24 hours before buffing with a cloth or brush. This allows the turpentine to evaporate and the wax to penetrate. (On waxed furniture blemishes are not uncommon and do not detract from the quality or natural beauty). MAINTENANCE Exposure to the sun's rays can dry out the wood and actually bleach out the colour In the case of any stains, or serious scratches, you may want to use our furniture restoring and repair services prices below: SAFETY Never allow furniture to be used for any other purpose other than that for which it is primarily intended. Never allow anyone especially children - on or into the furniture, or use excessive force on such things as open doors or drawers. Use reasonable care in distributing weight, particularly in taller pieces that could topple if top-heavy. If in doubt, secure to a wall. ROOM TEMPERATURE If your house or apartment is especially dry in winter, you should use a humidifier. Wood responds to changes in temperature and humidity. It swells or shrinks and can warp or split. So try to avoid extremes in temperature and make sure that your wood objects do not dry out or become too damp. Today's homes, especially, are often heated with forced air heat, which can tend to dry out furniture quickly. The same applies to too much moisture. Occasionally check the back of your furniture, like pieces resting against an outside wall, for signs of mould and mildew. If you find some, immediately wipe it off with a soft cloth moistened with a very dilute solution of household bleach-10 parts water to 1 part bleach. Thanks. Alpha Pine.
